RCIC Introduction

The Research Cyberinfrastructure Center (RCIC) at the University of California, Irvine is integral to research and teaching mission at UCI. It defines and maintains real infrastructure for high-performance and high-throughput computing, research data storage and analysis, and scientific software tool integration. Computing and data infrastructure is operated in a shared financial model where campus researchers[1] are given no-cost access to a baseline level of computing and highly-reliable storage, but can also purchase additional capacity and capability using grant or other funds. In addition, no-charge computation with modest local storage is available to a wider range of the campus community..

RCIC deploys resources for the UCI research community. These include

  • HPC, UCI’s "condo" cluster

  • Research Storage (CRSP), Campus Research Storage Pool. Highly-reliable, encrypted-at-rest, data storage available across the UCI campus network

  • HPC3, UCI’s next generation of shared computing supporting both a condo and pay-per-cycle model (Beta)
