22 March 2020 Dear Friends and Family: This medical and financial crisis requires all of us to work together, to support each other, to help our neighbors, and to pray as one that this bitter cup passes quickly from our lips. At Huntington Manor, we are limiting contact of those from outside our campus to help prevent the spread of the virus to our residents. However, we are allowing family members to visit their loved ones under the following conditions: (1) if you are sick, please do not come, (2) please use the outside door to your loved one’s room, (3) do not mingle with other residents, (4) respect safe distances between each other, and (5) try to limit your visits to a couple of times each week. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Our activities have increased, especially in the afternoons. On pleasant days, we will strive to bring outside for a walk or to bask in the sun those residents who can. If they cannot walk with a caregiver, we will use their wheelchairs. Bingo, always a favorite, will be featured more often. Bed-bound residents will have people visit them. The common areas’ televisions will show news in the morning, but will feature movies and funny shows in the afternoons. While the music programs have been temporarily halted, I have asked the staff to devise substitutes, perhaps some type of singalongs. We have plenty of supplies on hand, and will continue to serve them meals and desserts which they enjoy. The residents are doing well, and those on hospice have a nurse check on them every week. I have also asked my staff, especially those who reside on site to limit their trips and interactions off-site. This emergency will test us all. But, together, we will survive. Sincerely, Philip J. Butzen
